Prior to the massage the focus of your session will be discussed. You will dress down privately to your comfort level so the areas of your body to be worked on are accessible. You will be safely draped with a blanket and/or sheet throughout the session. Please talk about any comfortability concerns with your therapist.
You may talk with your therapist as much, or as little, as you wish during your sessions. It is helpful to provide feedback on pressure and techniques to allow for your best experience. Keep in mind it is important to relax and breathe normally, so to try not to tighten or contract your muscles during your session.
Please come to your appointment with good hygiene. If oils are used on unwashed skin, this could cause irritation and/or an allergic reaction. The same goes for after the massage, you may want to shower soon afterwards if you have sensitive skin.
Hydration will be important for the remainder of the day and possibly some down time, as well. Massage is about connecting with your body so try to listen to what it is telling you. If you are tired, thirsty or hungry, please nourish and replenish your body for the best response to your treatment.
What type(s) of massage do you offer?
The basic modalities include Deep tissue/Swedish/Sports and myo-fascial release, techniques for active and passive release for muscles or other connective tissues, trigger point release, applied Table Thai Massage. Each modality is blended into a session, when and as needed. Please let your therapist know if you have questions.
How often should I get a massage?
It really depends on your concerns and other therapies and activities you may already be doing. Lifestyle massage helps manage kinds of general aches and pains that surface with day to day activities such as work and play. You will find receiving massage once every 4-6 weeks is sufficient to maintain good mobility and comfortability. If you have a routine that includes regular movement and activity and tight muscles are your main issue, this is when lifestyle massage works well. If you are less active or less mobile due to an injury or have high stress causing your pain, weekly or bi-monthly massage treatments may be most beneficial initially. We want to support your body while it heals and see you less frequently. The same approach is used for chronic pain and each are determined with each client. To get ahead of chronic and ongoing symptoms of tension and tightness, it is best to receive massage more frequently; initially 2-4x/month and tapering off as symptoms become less problematic. Sometimes this requires other types of treatment such as chiropractic adjustments, physical therapy, acupuncture or other modality. The goal is to "need" massage less frequently and reach a point of maintenance.
What types of oils and/or creams do you use?
